Controversial Miniseries The Kennedys Lands in Latin America

Never has a miniseries caused so much buzz among US networks. After History rejected the project, The Kennedys finally found a place on RC boosting the network's audience share by 1600%.

Executive produced by Joel Surnow –one of the master minds behind 24- the project had everything to become a TV hit from the very beginning. And it did. But its premiere was preceded by a long list of controversies, even worse that when CBS was about to release The Reagans. Back then, the network ended up cancelling the show after one of its major advertisers expressed concerns on its content.

The miniseries was scheduled to air on History but the fuss around the Kennedy family -if not all part of a viral market strategy- caused the network to back down and delete the new Muse and Asylum Entertainment co-production from its grid. Even Showtime, Starz, FX and HBO –which had its own project on the Kennedy family- succumbed to the pressure and decided to withdraw from the race to acquire its distribution rights. Nobody can be a prophet in his own land, they say.

This daring, small and independent pay TV company averaged 1.9 million total viewers in the first two episodes, breaking all of its previous audience records and increasing its share by 1600%. The rest is history. "In acquiring The Kennedys our aim was to give viewers an opportunity to watch an incredible movie event with massive star power and to also put a spotlight on our network like never before," said Stan E. Hubbard, CEO of Reelz Channel.

The miniseries has been already broadcast in 15 countries across different continents and will land in Latin America thanks to Spiral International, which is under Zasha Robles' lead. The show will also be showcased during the upcoming LA Screenings.

Kennedy and Tom Wilkinson –also nominated for his role as Joe Kennedy-, will follow the life of the Kennedy family and their rise to power amidst everyday-life happenings and the most important events in US and world politics.
