With offices in Chile, the operator TuVes HD is currently present in the region -Chile, Peru, Paraguay and Bolivia- through a business model based on wholesale service. "We are interested in working in Argentina this year, while also assessing the possibility to work in Venezuela, Colombia, Panama and Ecuador," Konrad Burchardt, manager and CEO at TuVes HD, told ttv. The executive has worked in the pay TV industry for over 20 years.
TuVes HD was founded in Chile as a DTH wholesaler for cable companies, telcos and retailers seeking to expand in their regions through a DTH platform. The company currently has close to 25,000 subscribers. "A local cable company such as Curacao in Peru can take TuVes' service with its brand and that way sell its product across the country," Burchardt said. In this case, the Peruvian company is a retailer with over 100 branches in the country.
TuVes HD also allows cable companies and telcos to launch their own DTH service with technology provided by the Chilean company. "We offer the means and the technology: HD set-top-boxes and PVR services. In addition, we also have a product for cable operators that wish to digitalize its networks at very low costs," he said.
MARKET VISION Digitalization is mandatory in the current industry in which major pan-regional operators such as Claro, Telefónica and DIRECTV have taken over the communication, pay TV and entertainment business, and the executive highlighted the advantages provided by DTH platforms: "Nowadays, the cable operator has to compete with satellite that has better quality. In addition, in all those areas the networks don't reach, DTH is growing at a remarkable pace. DTH is the tool that allows you to take advantage of those areas cable can't reach. And it's also a way to compete against big companies like Telefónica, Claro and DIRECTV," he said.
TuVes HD's offer is custom made for cable operators and telcos that wish to enter the pay TV industry and compete against major operators. "Our service is provided through a platform at a very reasonable cost and offers a higher quality with MPG4, HD and PVR technologies. We are not the competition; we are an ally: we offer our platform for clients to digitalize and compete in the future," he said.
CHANGING TIMES Considering the market's current situation, the executive believes it's necessary for cable companies to understand that, in order to grow, they must take a step forward in terms of technology and business models. "Cable companies must understand that, in order to grow, they must become a pay TV and entertainment service," Burchardt concluded.
