Same as last year, Mad Men is still the leader, and American Horror Story, Downtown Abbey and miniseries Hatfields and McCoys are also among the most nominated.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the nominees for the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which will take place on Sunday, September 23, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Kerry Washington.

Mad Men and American Horror Story are at the top of the list with 17 nominations each. Meanwhile, New Girl, Homeland, House of Lies, Downtown Abbey and Hemingway & Gellhorn are among the year's new comers.

In the best comedy category, The Big Bang Theory, Rockefeller Plaza, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Veep and Girls are all nominated, in addition to Modern Family, which won the award the last two years. Meanwhile, the nominees in the drama series category are Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones and Homeland.

This year, six very different actors will battle it out in the Best Actor in a drama series category: John Hamm (Mad Men), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), Damian Lewis (Homeland), Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) and Michael C. Hall (Dexter).

As far as the leading ladies go, the nominees for Best Actress in a drama series are: Glenn Close (Damages), Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey), Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Kathy Bates (Harry's Law), Claire Danes (Homeland) and Elizabeth Moss (Mad Men).

This year's list of funny leading men and ladies includes: Alec Baldwin (Rockefeller Plaza), Don Cheadle (House of Lies), Louis C.K. (Louie), Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men), Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory); as well as Zooey Deschanel (New Girl), Lena Dunham (Girls), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Tina Fey (Rockefeller plaza), Julia Louise-Dreyfus (Veep), Melissa McCarthy (Mike and Molly) and Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation).

Latin actress Sofía Vergara is also nominated in the Best Actress in a comedy series category for her role in Modern Family.
