Online TV services are increasing exponentially in Latin America, yet internet speed isn't always up to par. In order for the quality to be good, a 2Mbps connection rate is necessary, a speed that's not available in the entire region.

Yet, there are some exceptions such as Chile: according to 2011 Worldwide Internet Report released by Akamai, 80% of internet connections in Chile are above 2Mbps, making it an ideal market for online TV. Chile is followed by Panama which records a 65% and places second in Latin America. Colombia has 63% of its connections above 2Mbps, Mexico has 59% and Argentina records a 37%.

Brazil records just 32% of accesses above 2Mbps, followed by Peru (15%), Venezuela (2.7%) and Bolivia and Uruguay, which barely reach 1%.

As far as connections above 5Mbps go, Chile is once again the leader with 8.2%, followed by Argentina with 6.1%, Brazil with 5.5%, Colombia with 4.1% and Mexico with 3%.

Meanwhile, the US records 81% of accesses above 2Mbps, and 45% above 5Mbps.
