This Monday, May 7th, Globomedia and Televisa announced an agreement under which they'll create a joint company to produce TV content aimed at the international market. The alliance follows Televisa joining the Imagina Media Audiovisual holding, which Globomedia is also a part of.
According to both companies, the new production company will own the rights to adapt Televisa's catalog in Spain, as well as start original productions. In addition, the deal establishes Televisa will provide the company with the rights to adapt Sony's fiction catalog in the country, following an important collaboration deal.
As part of their strategy, Televisa -the largest Hispanic media company- is joining Globomedia -the main Spanish producer, with series such as Águila Roja, El Barco and Aída on top of Spain's ratings charts- to enter the Spanish production market. All in all, the deal merges the two leading Hispanic production companies and their successful catalogs in one same project.
Daniel Écija, president of Globomedia, expressed his "satisfaction" with the deal that provides access to two of the world's best catalogs: Televisa's and Sony Pictures'. "We are thrilled to be creating this production company with our partners in Mexico. We believe it's a major deal that promotes our international expansion. It will be excellent for both companies," said Écija.
Meanwhile, José Bastón, president of TV content at Televisa said "the deal with Globoledia is a major step to expand Televisa's presence in the Hispanic-speaking world, as well as Europe, since in the content industry, its necessary to grow through format sales, co-production deals and partnerships with experts."
