The president of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, revealed one of the ANTV's main priorities is to increase the number of TV networks in the country.

Created only a week ago, the National TV Authority in Colombia (ANTV) already announced its first goal: to increase the number of TV channels.
A tender for a third network had been one of CNTV's goals for a long time, but never became a reality.
The announcement was made yesterday by the president of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, who stated the organization already has a plan to meet this goal.
"The schedule includes technical investigations, legal and financial studies to define the best way to meet this goal. Colombia deserves and wants a more assorted content offer and that's the organization's main goal, which we hope it can accomplish as soon as possible," Santos said.
The president announced his intentions to "promote" the Colombian audiovisual industry, thus devoting more resources to this area.
"We want to promote audiovisual production in the country, and that's why the ANTV will have resources -determined by the new law- to support national producers. We also want higher-quality free TV with more content that's appealing to our viewers. The law therefore also establishes a minimum of 60% of the fund's resources will be invested in TV development," he said.
Santos seemed confident the ANTV will not fail, since it doesn't have the CNTV's "vices".
"This new TV entity eliminates the former committee's vices, promoting the addition of the right members, supported by good judgment from the universities to choose said members," he said.
Last but not least, he highlighted digital TV's breakthroughs and how its technical schemes are being used in the country, while also defending the DVB-TV norm.
"Two weeks ago, we produced the final document to allow networks to develop a larger offer, meaning they are allowed to have more channels using the same spectrum. Colombia will have a high quality image such as the one in the UK, Italy and Spain," he concluded.
