London began its transition from analog to digital TV this past Friday, which will end on April 18. It is also expected to expand to other areas in the UK in late October.
Digital UK, the company managing the technological transition in the country's TV industry announced the digital network will be available all across London. BBC Two is expected to be available this Wednesday for those who haven't adapted their TV sets to digital technology, and in ten days, analog broadcasts will end.
This evolution began back in 2008, and after a slow process, it will finally end in October in Northern Ireland. After the new technology is embraced, Brits will have between 14 and 40 channels available according to the area they live in.
After the European Committee established a deadline back in 2005, for networks to transition into digital broadcasts; Luxemburg and Holland were the first to adapt to the new technology, followed by Spain, Germany, Denmark and Finland.
The deadline ends on December 31, 2012, and several countries such as the UK, France and Italy are expected to be done with the transition by 2013.
