Following a deal signed on May 5 to schedule Mexico's transition to DTT for 2015, the Federal Telecommunications Committee (Cofetel) is analyzing the possibility to invest in grants devoted to acquiring new equipment and technologies.

Mony de Swaan, president of Cofetel, showed his regret about the situation becoming so political, since it would otherwise be easier to establish grants. The executive stated he was in favor of granting funds for the analog switch-off: "Without investing the necessary funds, it would be to complicated to meet the deadlines and penetration percentage established," said De Swaan to cnnexpansion.com.

The president highlighted the importance of these grants in other countries and their transition onto DTT. All that's left to do now is wait for the government and main media outlets to settle on the issue, to give way for DTT in 2013.
