Netflix Disembarks in Europe
 
The US company started 2012 with big news: since Monday, January 9, its online streaming service is available in the UK and Ireland.

It's a fact; the US company's OTT service has taken its first steps in the new continent. This past Monday, January 9, an assorted content catalog including movies and series by Netflix will be available in the UK and Ireland through a monthly fee of 5.99 pounds and 6.99 euros, respectively.

During the past few months, Netflix signed multiple deals with major British content companies such as All3Media, BBC, CBS, Channel 4, Disney UK and Irlanda, ITV, Lionsgate UK, MGM, Miramax, Momentum Pictures, NBCUniversal, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox and Viacom International Media Networks.

"Viewers can now enjoy all the movies and TV shows they want, whenever and wherever they want to, for a very low price, with no commitments or contracts," Reed Hastings, co-founder and CEO of Netflix, salid.

The company's main competitor within this market is unquestionably Locefilm by Amazon, which already fought back by offering a "streaming only" fee of 4.99 pounds a month.
